Our Minister

Rev. Marraine Kettell grew up in Durham, Maine.  Her family began attending the First Congregational Church of Durham soon after they moved to the area.  Marraine and her family were loved and embraced by the church fostering community relationships that remain to this day.  Marraine participated in Maine Conference activities through Pilgrim Lodge and conference annual meetings.

At the age of fourteen, Marraine felt a call to parish ministry, but the path forward was not direct.  She is a graduate of Brunswick High School where her two favorite activities were swimming and the Speech and Debate team.  She attended college at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania majoring in English and French, including a study abroad year in Avignon, France.  After college she spent a number of years working in hotels and at a study abroad company in Boston before enrolling in a Masters of French program at Middlebury College in Vermont and Paris.  She then worked at the French Library and Cultural Center in Boston as the Education Coordinator.  Without aiming to, she had followed the advice of a mentor to experiment with other careers before she considered seminary.

In the fall of 2001, after a few reflective conversations with beloved family and friends, as well as significant tugs from the Holy Spirit, Marraine finally surrendered to the call to seminary.  She attended Andover Newton Theological Seminary.  She was ordained in 2006 at Old South Church in Boston where she was a member for the ten years she lived in the Boston area.  Again and again, she found that her call to parish ministry is strong and finds that it is where her varied gifts serve the community well.  Marraine has served in churches in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York and most recently Old South Church in Farmington, Maine.  Recently she has been working as a part time Hospice Chaplain with Andwell Health Partners and pulpit supply during her search for her next church.

Pure and simply, Marraine loves church.  She was nurtured by a local Congregational Church and by the wider United Church of Christ as a child and a teenager.  Repeatedly, church has been where she finds community, sanctuary and extravagant hospitality to welcome others into the fold.  She is grateful for the wealth of experience she had during her long discernment into the ministry.  It has equipped her in ways she now celebrates.  She works to reinforce the relevance and gifts of church in our lives and in the world.  As a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ, having lived or served in six conferences, Marraine loves to connect the churches she serves with the denominational contacts she has made over the years.  In other settings, she may not be classified as a social butterfly, but in the wider church, she may fool you into believing that she is an extrovert.

Marraine's father still lives in Durham and is a dedicated member of the Durham Church.  Her brother and his family live in Georgetown, Maine.  Marraine's household includes Rusty, an Australian Cattle Dog, and Winter, the cat who has recovered well as the runt of the litter.  She loves to read, knit prayer shawls, play card games, use puns in conversations, find ways to use her creativity, and is most at ease when she can be near water.

Our Minister of Music

Our Minister of Music, Salvatore Capaccio (he prefers to be called Sonny), joined us in May of 2025.  He's multi-talented with a passion for sharing and teaching music.  He believes music in the church is about enhancing the spiritual  experience of worship and that music has the power to heal.

Sonny has vast experience in voice, directing, arrangement and composition.  He has a B.A. in Music and has played and sung in multiple music ensembles.  He's skilled in several musical instruments including piano, organ, oboe, French horn, harpsicord, percussion and electric bass.  Sonny has been involved in theatrical and choral performances.  He has taught Math and Music and has been a cantorial soloist at St. George Church in Connecticut.  Recently, he has directed choral performances at Poland Regional High School and Casco Bay High School.

Sonny brings our church not only fresh ideas and experience, but works hard to bring God's message in music to all.
