COMMUNITY LUNCH ON JANUARY 21ST.
On January 21st, First Congragational Church of Scarborough opened its doors for our third delicious Neighbors Table free community lunch, welcoming neighbors and friends to break bread together, building community and friendships. Our talented team of cooks and hostesses - Susan Fielding, Ruth Bruns, Donna Stephen, Pat Knittel, Vicki Flynn, Kathy Ross, Allison Curry, Liane Giambalvo, Mary Hunter, Merry Roberts and Sandy Elder - prepared a wonderful spread featuring haddock chowder (a special thank you to Helen and Norm Higgins for donating the haddock!), chicken noodle soup and curried lentil soup. We enjoyed crusty dinner rolls, homemade biscuits, butter and crackers. We offered fresh fruit and sweet treats for dessert. The atmosphere was festive and welcoming, with tables adorned with fabric runners, colorful napkins and Christmas poinsettias. We were blessed to serve over 35 guests, including our dedicated workers. We were a tiny bit worried we would run out of food, but in the end we had plenty! Some portions were set aside to go to those church members unable to attend but who could use a home cooked meal delivered with a smile. Other leftovers were given to the food pantry to be distributed to their customers. The entire event cost approximately $120, which was graciously covered by a generous donation from Project Grace. Project Grace also assisted us with advertising the luncheon and creating flyers and postcards for distribution around town. We are deeply grateful for their support of this important ministry. |
